Inaugural British Multi Stage Ultra May 25th 2008
Published by Casey McGuire April 21st, 2008 in Trail Running News
Taking place on the remote Islands on the West Coast of Scotland, the British Ultra will undoubtedly be the toughest multi stage footrace within the United Kingdom. The event will see athletes compete over 6 days taking in high mountains, exposed coastal cliffs, isolated tracks/trails in one of the more remote and certainly most extreme environments that Britain has to offer.
The event will be predominately a self sufficient race, albeit some concession will be allowed to accommodate the additional kit required to participate in an event of this nature in the UK. Night time accommodation will be provided in picturesque, remote tented event villages along the course.
The race will be a significant test to both first time entrants into the World of Extreme Ultra running and veterans of other events around the World.
Race Structure
The British Ultra is a 6 day multi staged self sufficient race in a very remote British environment. The race will traverse two beautiful islands on the West Coast of Scotland with overnight stops at secluded tented villages situated in simply stunning locations, often with wild mountain backdrops and unsurpassed views towards either the sea or lochs. Competitors will be expected to carry all their provisions for the race including food, cooking items, clothing, sleeping equipment (tented accommodation provided) and other safety gear.
A factor that might be partly lost on the athletes during the day whilst they are competing, the location of the race provides some of the most beautiful scenery available within the British Isles, with the guaranteed sighting of a multitude of wild fauna and flora including Red and Roe Deer, Otters, Seals, Wild Goats etc.
Rules
1. Upon registration, all competitors agree to abide by the rules and regulations, terms and conditions as set out by the organizers. Terms and conditions may be subject to change at short notice.
2. In any dispute, the Race Directors decision will be final and binding on all parties.
3. The organizers reserves the right to alter or modify any aspect of the British Ultra itinerary at short notice in response to unforeseen circumstances in order to ensure the safety and security of all participants. Therefore, the organizers and representatives strongly encourage each participant to purchase trip cancellation insurance.
MISCELLANEOUS
In the absence of a rule for some obscure reason, common sense will prevail and the organizer’s decision on such occasions will be final.
