Scott Jurek, whose name is synonymous in the running world with speed and endurance, will be the keynote speaker for the annual M.P.H. Banquet.
The fourteenth annual Marshall-Proctor-Hermantown Excellence in Education Banquet will be held on Wednesday evening, May 7, 2008, 6:30 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, Duluth.
Jurek, Proctor High School’s 1992 valedictorian and president of the National Honor Society during his senior year, is an ultramarathon runner and is the only North American winner of the Spartathlon, Greece’s famed 246K race from Athens to Sparta; set a course record in the Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile run from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney in temperatures up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit; and is the only seven-time consecutive winner of the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run. Jurek has been featured in many media outlets including Runner’s World, Running Times, Outside, ESPN Magazine, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Health, National Geographic Adventure, and Trail Runner Magazine.
Jurek graduated with a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the College of St. Scholastica in 1998 to fulfill his desire to guide people toward a path of wellness and optimal health. He makes his home in Seattle, WA.
