workowsiBefore Sean Workowsi can hit the trail, he has to finish his day job as an attorney at Frith, Anderson and Peake. Most of us probably hit the couch when we get off, but not this guy. He gets in the car and heads off to the Appalachian Trail to train anywhere from one to six hours a day.

“The Appalachian Trail is great for training because there is a lot of up and down,” says Workowski.

Workowski’s getting ready to run the Western States 100 mile race in California across remote, rough terrain. To put that in perspective, a marathon is 26.2 miles.

He started running when he attended the Citadel, and he’s never stopped.

“All I wanted to do was go to Boston, [I was] able to do that, then forty, fifty… [I wanted to] see if I can lengthen it out to 100, that’s the challenge for me is seeing how far I can go,” says Workowski.

He says around 15% to 20% of runners can do it in less than 24 hours, so that’s his goal.

Workowski is one of only six Virginians who qualified for the race. He was lucky enough to win one of 369 spots for the upcoming 100 miler through a lottery system.
