Runners take part in one of the worlds’ toughest ultra-endurance marathons

Aramex (DFM: ARMX), one of the world’s leading total transportation solutions providers, announced Sunday that its veteran runners Salameh Al Aqra and Mohammed Sweity are scheduled to compete later this month in Morocco’s Marathon Des Sables, a grueling six-day, 243 kilometer endurance footrace across the Moroccan Desert.
The Marathon Des Sables - which takes place 28 March to 7 April 2008, and is expected to draw more than 900 athletes from over 36 countries - can be considered the greatest possible challenge for any runner anywhere in the world.
“Aramex has always been about meeting challenges. Al Aqra and Sweity carry the same spirit of perseverance necessary to compete and win the seemingly impossible race” said Aramex Chief Projects Officer, Mr. Raji Hattar.
Sweity and Al Aqra, who finished 2nd and 12th respectively in 2006 Marathon Des Sables race, have been sponsored by Aramex for several years, their latest achievement was leading the Aramex eam to winning and breaking the standing record of the Dead to Red Ultra Marathon, a 242 kilometer endurance footrace between the coasts’ of the Dead Sea and the Red Sea in Jordan.
