XTERRA white

No, I don’t work for XTERRA, but they have a nice series of trail runs spread out about the U.S. this year, and were gracious enough to let me share their schedule with you. These were all the May events I could find for the Trail Run Series. Some good races have passed, but there are a lot more coming up this year.

Oregon - 05/17/08 XTERRA Havoc at the Hideout 8k – North Plains

XTERRA off-road trail running is exploding into the Northwest with the 2008 Oregon Trail Run Series. With all three races stretching past the Portland city limits, XTERRA invites runners to ditch their city mentality and immerse themselves in the rugged outdoor terrain.

The second race in the Oregon Series is the XTERRA Havoc at the Hideout. Five miles of rough and tough trails cover the breathtaking Hornings Hideout in North Plains, Oregon. Every type of terrain will challenge runners as they barrel over logs, leap over creeks, stumble up hills and navigate over the dirt-covered trails.

New York 05/24/08 XTERRA Black Bear Hollow Trail Run 8k – Hurley

Making its debut in 2008 is the XTERRA New York Trail Run Series. With three intense, off-road races making up the composition, the series bursts into the XTERRA family. Being known for its extreme, off-the-beaten-path events, XTERRA is making no exceptions when it comes to New York.

Hurley, New York sets the stage for the first two races of the season with the XTERRA Black Bear Hollow Trail Run and the XTERRA Twin Lakes Trail Run. With 8 and 12 kilometers respectively full of root-tripping, mud-slipping paths, runners will navigate their way around ponds, over calve-burning hills and through treacherous tree-lined forests. Located at the Hudson River inside Catskill Park, runners will be rewarded for their grueling efforts with beautiful, scenic views.

Bringing a taste of its adrenaline rushing, off-the-beaten-path trail runs, XTERRA invades the Philadelphia area with its 2008 Philly Trail Run Series. Compiled of five races, the series dares runners to leave their urban jungles and venture outdoors to compete in some of the most extreme, off-road races around.

The first four races of the series feature a mixture of unstable gravel roads, lush grass fields, and muddy dirt trails as athletes trek over 3 miles of beautiful wooded terrain. The 538-acre Warwick Park located in Pottstown, PA and the 900 acres spanning over Hibernia Park in Coatesville, PA will each host two runs held during the warm, summer Wednesday evenings.

XTERRA is finishing the 2008 Georgia Trail Run Series with a bang. At the end of this season’s road, XTERRA brings one final extreme, off-road adventure to Dauset, Georgia with the XTERRA Deep South Trail Run 15k on May 31. Held within 1200 acres of picturesque woodlands and 17 miles of winding paths inside the Dauset Trails Nature Center, athletes will scramble over a little more than 9 miles of hard-packed dirt, mud-traps and a few twisting roots thrown in just for fun. The course crosses over gentle slopes, up grueling climbs and through a flat forest basin. The mixture of single and double tracks along with a few technical sections will give runners the ultimate off-road running experience.

Urban athletes looking to “Ditch the City” can head for these beautiful, scenic woods of suburban Atlanta where they will find a variety of terrain leading them through thick grassy fields, around glistening blue lakes and over narrow creek crossings. Runners will experience nature at its best and hopefully get the chance to view some of the animal wildlife along with its breathtaking vistas. After attracting runners from 11 states at the last event, expectations are high for the XTERRA Deep South Trail Run.

Atlanta local Chris Wiley will be there hopeful to win his third consecutive race to complete the sweep of the XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series. After coming in first place in the last two events, Chris is in a great position to win free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship to be held on September 27 in Bend, Oregon.
